I have a nail where there is a brown line that goes across it vertically. I covers about a quarter of the nail and the cuticle, where the brown line comes out of, is brown. is this nail fungus???? or is it something else? and does any one know how i can get rid of it?Nail Fungus?
Fungal nail infections are most often seen in adults. They often follow fungal infection of the feet. Fungal nail infections may be difficult to treat and may recur often. Toenails are affected more often than fingernails.
People who frequent public swimming pools, gyms, or shower rooms -- and people who perspire a great deal -- commonly have mold-like infections, because the fungi that cause them thrive in warm, moist areas.
The risk of getting a fungal infection is increased by closed-in footwear, prolonged moist skin, and minor skin or nail injuries.
Over-the-counter creams and ointments generally do not help treat this condition.
Prescription anti-fungal medicines taken by mouth may help clear the fungus in about 50% of patients. However, such medicines can cause side effects or may interfere with other health medicines the patient is taking.
In some cases, the nail may be removed by the doctor. Nails grow slowly, so even if treatment is successful, a new, clearer nail may take up to a year to grow in.
Good general health and hygiene help to prevent fungal infections. Keep the skin clean and dry. Take proper care of the nails. Wash and dry the hands thoroughly after contact with any fungal infection.Nail Fungus?
Yes it is nail fungus and medicines are not a cure for it. The doctor will tell you to take Lamisil tablets and apply Lamisil cream over the area but the fungus does not go away with it. The simple solution is rub a clove of garlic over the infected nail twice daily. Then mash a garlic with a fork and put a small piece of the mashed garlic under the nail and apply bandage over it so the garlic stays under the nail. The nail will become fine in 3 to 4 days.

I have had nail fungus on both of my big toe nails, was awful. i went to the podiatrist and they wanted to remove both of the nails. They actually wanted me to live the rest of my life w/o toenails. EEwww no way!. So here is what you do, and it totally works. Put vicks vapor rub over the toenail and cover with a bandaid. Don't take lamisal that can destroy your liver, most large corporate medical centers like kaiser don't give it to their patients. They would rather their patients be healthy with fungus on their nails than enduring liver complications.
