i noticed one of my fish have a fungus on her head its all white like cotton, my question is i have melafix will this cure the fungus on her head i know it will cure fungus on mouth but not sure about her headFungus in tropical fish?
Fungal infections and columnaris can both manifest as white cotton wool patches on the head, so Patches could be right, but both fungal infections and columnaris can attack a fish.
Do you have any test results for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH?
Do you have a filter? Is it fully cycled?
How big is the tank and what are the inhabitants?
Assuming the tank is of appropriate size and has a fully mature filter with no readings of ammonia or nitrite, and nitrate under 40ppm (20ppm for sensitive fish) treat the tank with a combination of Melafix and Pimafix (2 of the few medications that are safe to use in combo). Increase aeration during treatment.
If it doesn't clear up within a few days, or if the fish gets noticeably worse, find a qualified fish vet and see about getting some Furan 2 (in the UK, it's a prescription only med).Fungus in tropical fish?
This is probably not a fungus but Columnaris. A very deadly and fast-spreading common disease. Fugus is not usually white and cottony. Columnaris is mistaken for fungus (which is actually rather rare to see on a fish) so much that some fungus meds are actually half antibiotic.
You will need to treat the fish with an antibiotic made for gram negative bacteria. Combining Maracyn and Maracyn 2 is usually the best action to take. If you want to treat for fungus, do so after the maracyn treatment. Fungus is much much less deadly.

put a little sea salt in tank until you can get pet shop.i used to keep a copper coin in tank when i had fish.
You need to get to the pet store and get it meds for this right away, waiting too long could cause death.
Unsure about melafix I would use esha 2000 brilliant stuff. My fish had this and esha is what I used.
treat the hole of your tank with fungicide to stop it spreaing to the rest of your tank and fish
